Reclaimed Insulating Oil

Reclaimed insulating oilIt was in the immediate post World War II period, that transformer oil reclamation began, as a means of overcoming the need to replace severely service degraded oil with imported unused oil, which would require scarce foreign exchange to pay for it. A number of specialist oil companies were engaged by the electricity supply industry to develop a means of removing the products of degradation, and giving the oil a further lease of life.

So successful was this operation, that, within a few years, reclaimed oil became the first choice of the electricity industry. Indeed, unused oil was only purchased when reclaimed was unavailable. Even when the dark days of the post war period were a distant memory, reclaimed oil remained the first choice for purely economic reasons.

Reclaimed insulating oilMore recently, insulating oil reclamation has found its place as a conservation measure, in a more environmentally aware and responsible age. Not only does reclamation conserve finite resources of valuable naphthenic crude, but reclamation of used insulating oil, which is already in the UK, saves energy and other raw materials consumed in production and transport, and reduces the potentially harmful emissions associated with these activities.

Inhibited Reclaimed Insulating Oil

Reclaimed Insulating Oil as above further protected against oxidation by the inclusion of carefully chosen anti-oxidant additives.

In addition, both inhibited and uninhibited Reclaimed Insulating Oils are available with the addition of a copper passivator. All Reclaimed Insulating Oil supplied by EOS fully complies with the requirements of BS148.
